Collection Notes:  View help for Collection Notes Collection: AmeriCorps Segal Education Award payment data is collected and maintained by the National Service Trust. Payment to eligible institutions is made on behalf of the AmeriCorps member or recipient of a transferred award at their request. AmeriCorps members must use their award within seven years of completing their term of service. Recipients of transferred awards must use the award within ten years from the date the education award was earned. Limitations: (1) Includes all Segal AmeriCorps Education payment types, including interest payments. (2) Institution, System, and State are data values reviewed and cleaned by CNCS staff to increase standardization. The cleaning process includes multiple types of changes including; adjusting abbreviations, fixing spelling errors, updating the name if ownership changed or as otherwise changed by the institution, or reflecting the name of the higher ed institution if payment was handled by a loan processing organization but the higher ed institution name was present in CNCS records associated with the payment, among other change types. (3) Changes are current as of September 2017 and are subject to change on further review. (4) Changes do not affect the CNCS system of record managed by the National Service Trust and are made for the purpose of easier public consumption of the data. (5) Systems may be incomplete or missing. If you believe a system should be added to the dataset or if another record is in error, please write to [email protected] with the current name and state of the institution and the recommended change. (6) Payment to eligible institutions is made on behalf of the AmeriCorps member or recipient of transferred awards at their request. AmeriCorps members must use their award within seven years of completing their term of service. Recipients of transferred awards must use the award within ten years from the date the education award was earned. (7) Repay loan payments are those made to qualified student loans. Qualified student loans is defined as a loan backed by the federal government under Title IV of the Higher Education Act (except PLUS Loans to parents of students) or under Titles VII or VIII of the Public Health Service Act. Under this category, AmeriCorps alumni may also use their Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to repay a student loan that was made to the member by a state agency, including state institutions of higher education. (8) Eligible schools for education payments are higher educational institutions, both domestic and international, that currently participate in the Department of Education’s Title IV student aid programs. They are referred to as "Title IV schools." This category includes most post-secondary colleges, universities, and technical schools. The education award can also be used for programs of education, apprenticeship, or on the job training that have been approved for educational benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill and the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill.
